London Day School Placement for family returning to the UK from Switzerland

With two children aged 11 and 13, the family discovered in late March that they would be relocating to the UK for September, from Switzerland where the children were in the IB system at an international school. The family wanted to be within an hour of London and were looking for all round day schools. The challenge was to find schools where places were available at such a late stage in the academic year and preferably were linked so that both children could be at the same school.

• Having carried out an academic assessment for each child the differences between the UK and MYP curriculum were evident and a plan was put in place for tuition in advance of entrance exams and school placement application
• The elder of the children had done less subject based Science than her UK peers and a careful presentation of each pupil’s academic profile was needed in discussion with admissions offices
• Having longlisted and considered schools across three locations, the list was shortened to two locations and the children were registered at four schools
• We spent extensive time talking to schools to find an ‘all through’ fit for the children
• Entrance exams had to be taken remotely as it was during the Easter holidays and William Clarence was happy to arrange and invigilate for these
• We arranged a visit to their top choice of school at short notice to meet staff at the junior and senior school and were delighted when both children were offered places
