An international family relocating to the UK at short notice

Surrey school placement

In late April this year, the family with three children under 11, decided to move to the UK from Ireland for September. The family, originally from Hong Kong, wanted to be outside London at a classic UK prep school offering excellent academics as well as strong extra curriculars in a rural setting. They were keen for the children to experience the space and all round opportunities offered at UK independent schools.

Having met and assessed the children, who were coming from the IB curriculum, we were able to give schools a very accurate picture of each child’s levels and potential.  The two older children had been in two different education systems, and there were a few gaps. In conversations with schools, we highlighted the differences from the IB curriculum and the children’s potential and how much they had to offer any school.

With visits to a shortlist of three schools set up within a week, the children attended taster days at all of the schools where they were assessed and spent time with their year group. For the youngest child, age 3, this involved a visit to the Nursery and playtime. William Clarence helped the older children prepare and think about each school in advance of their visits.

The family were offered places at every school and were very happy to accept offers from their first choice.
