Business application from a student in the Caribbean
UCAS and University Application Support
Our consultant at William Clarence started work with a family from the Caribbean; initially to discuss undergraduate applications for their son (grade 11 or year 12 in the UK) for the following academic year. However, it became clear that there wasn't enough A-level support for the students at his school as many just apply for US colleges, and so we began to discuss alternative options because it soon became apparent that he would not achieve the required grades for direct undergraduate entry to Russell Group universities. The family met with our consultant several times and explored the possibility of retaking A-levels, probably in the UK, or whether a foundation course in the UK would be the best route for entry to UK universities for undergraduate studies in business or business management.
In the end a decision was reached that the student would rather move forward and embark on a foundation course that would give him excellent entry options to a number of Russell Group universities in the UK, but also that would enable him to adjust to a different learning and living environment from what he was used to. This way he would also experience a much more independent approach to his learning before starting his undergraduate programme. Our consultant worked with the family throughout the whole process to facilitate the transition from one learning environment to a completely different one in another country.
Upon starting his foundation course in September, he grasped this new opportunity with both hands and made immediate improvements to his grades. He secured a number of excellent offers for undergraduate entry to business management degrees for the following year.
